A Great Spring Day

We’ve had inches and feet of rain in the last few weeks so today’s sunshine was a great relief.  We had 4 scheduled soccer games to see and play today but the rain cancelled all of them except for one.  Of course, the one that wasn’t cancelled was the earliest one for this great Saturday morning.  It was still cold at 9 this morning!  The mud was flying and the puddles were deep on the field.  I think we’re really considered “soccer moms” now that our boys have played in the mud.  HA!  HA!

I really like reading this new book, “ScreamFree Parenting.”  I did pretty good today at not screaming!  It’s hard sometimes.  The author has some really great points about being responsible TO our kids and not being responsible FOR our kids.  If we raise them to think for themselves, we consider them a rebel, but, if we only raise them to obey our commands, then we’ve raised a robot.  It’s that happy medium we have to reach.  We aren’t responsible FOR their decisions but we are responsible TO them for our choices and the decisions we make on how to respond to them and their choices.  I’m going to be more deliberate in not allowing my kids to see me lose my cool!  Easier said than done, as they say, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings!

I’m currently reading this book and have found it very good! Hopefully we can be “ScreamFree” parents together! Thanks for the blog–it’s always fun to keep up with our friends that we rarely see, which is too bad!
